Cathy McMorris Rodgers: The GOP's new Concern Troll

About five seconds after Cathy McMorris Rodgers was picked over Tom Price to chair the House Republican Conference in the next session, she was instantly deployed to all chat shows that would have her as the anti-McCain. She was no grumpy old man still bitter about getting his butt kicked by "that one." She was, literally, the new face of a party that thinks all it needs is re-branding.

But now she's stepped up to the plate to comment on the avalanche of calls for finally having "The Talk" about guns -- specifically, what kind of common-sense laws we should have put through long before 26 people (20 of them children) died in Newtown, CT. More below the Socialist tangerine beignet.

Like I said, McMorris Rodgers is the "new" face of the GOP -- not the old, crazy face, like this guy::

HUCKABEE: Ultimately, you can take away every gun in America and somebody will use a bomb. When somebody has an intent to do incredible damage, they’re going to find a way to do it… People will want to pass new laws, but unless you change people’s hearts, they’re our transition to the pastor side. This is a heart issue, it’s not something, laws don’t change this kind of thing.

CAVUTO: You know, inevitably people ask after tragedies like this, how could God let this happen?

HUCKABEE: Well, you know, it’s an interesting thing. We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we’ve systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage because we’ve made it a palce where we don’t want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability? That we’re not just going to have to be accountable to the police, if they catch us. But one day, we will stand before a Holy God in judgment. If we don’t believe that, then we don’t fear that.

Right -- that guy, and the faux news network he rose in on.

But McMorris Rodgers? No deity name-checking here. She's a reasonable person. In fact, this is just how reasonable she is:

“We need to find out what happened and what drove this individual to this place,” she said when asked about a potential review of gun laws. “I think we have to be careful about new, suggesting new gun laws. We need to look at what drives a crazy person to do these kind of actions and make sure that we’re enforcing the laws that are currently on the books. And yes, definitely, we need to do everything possible to make sure that something like this never happens again.”
See? See how eminently reasonable she is? We need to find out what happened. We shouldn't get caught up in this awful moment and start writing laws that might change things! We need to take a breath... think a minute... maybe pray together (to the deity of your own choice, of course -- provided it's the one whose name starts with "J"). We can't just go off half-cocked... uhh, I mean, Let's not go shooting ourselves in... uhh... (Okay, I'm sure there's a metaphor I can use somewhere...)

Sad. Pathetic, really. But that's why she got the gig: To make the shit Republicans say seem reasonable. And isn't she good at her job?

Discuss.
